Animal Burial Ground in Starodubskoye
On September 3, 1942 the Germans instructed the local authorities and the local police that the Jews had to prepare themselves to be evacuated on the following day. The Jews were ordered to prepare their valuables and up to 32 kilograms of possessions to take with them. The Jews arrived to the village center at the administration and from there taken out of the village eastward.The Germans took their belongings, with the local police ending up with the less valuable items. The Germans said that if the Jews stopped moving, they would be shot to death immediately. After a while the Jews reach an animal burial grounds next to which there was a ditch which had been dug some time earlier. The Jews were taken in groups of 3 to 5 and shot there. In that way German soldiers murdered 70 Jews - adults, old people, and children.
