Gashun Ravine
A Gestapo unit registered those Jews who remained in custody and on September 9, 1942 announced their relocation to Ukraine. Immediately after that several trucks arrived and the Germans took from the Jews all their valuables and loaded them onto a truck. The Jews were put on trucks and driven towards the former town dump, located near the Gashun Ravine and the air field, four kilometers northeast of the city. There they were shot to death. According to eyewitness testimonies some of the victims were still alive when they were buried. The exact number of Jewish victims is unknown since non-Jews were also shot at the same murder site. The total number of the victims has been estimated as 620.
