Chla River Bank

On September 17, 1942, a German killing squad arrived in Pelagiada [Palagiada]. They arrested six civilians, including Communist Party members and some Jews. The arrestees were taken to the banks of the lower channel of the Chla River. After being beaten by the Germans, these six civilians, five of whom were Jews, were ordered to dig their own grave. The Germans then shot them dead, and residents of Pelagiada were forced to bury the bodies.
