Hay Warehouse near Unecha
On the eve of the mass murder operation of March 15, 1942, 70-80 Jews from the village of Zhudilovo, located about 20-25 kilometers from Unecha, together with some 30 Roma people (including children), were brought to the ghetto in Unecha. Some sources indicate that baptized Jews were also taken to the ghetto and shot together with the rest of the Jewish population. On the day of the massacre, the Jews were beaten with rifle butts and forced out of the ghetto. Most of them were not fully dressed. They were led past a poultry-processing plant toward the murder site, where pits had been dug by local residents. The guards leading the Jews to the murder site were drunk.
