Karkhovskiy Forest
According to some sources, the Germans began shooting Jews, mostly men, soon after Novozybkov was occupied. On January 18 (according to other sources on January 14), 1942 a group of 950 Jews was taken from Novozybkov to the Karchovskiy Forest, where they were shot to death. Non-Jews were also shot at this murder site. Soviet reports note that most of the 2,860 bodies found at this location were those of Jews.
