Krasnaya Zarya Collective Farm Area

On October 10, 1942, the German military and the local policemen arrested thirty-five Jews and forced them to work for them. The Jews had to clean the toilets, and do senseless work. In October 1942, the Jews were assembled at a natural depression in the collective farm area. The Germans and their collaborators then proceeded to abuse the Jews. Jewish children were snatched by German soldiers, who smashed their heads against the ground or against trees. Women may have been raped – and, according to the eyewitnesses, the perpetrators went so far as to cut off women's breasts. Only then were the victims shot dead with a machine gun. Afterward, the perpetrators, wishing to erase all traces of their atrocity, doused the bodies with gasoline and burned them to ashes.
