Police Station in Tikhoretsk

During the occupation period, probably in November 1942, the German administration ordered a registration of the Jews of Tikhoretsk. 319 Jews were arrested by the local police, taken to the cellars of the police station, and held there for several hours. They were then divided into three separate groups, numbering approximately 186, ninety-six, and thirty-seven people, respectively. One by one, the groups were led to the ditches next to the police station. The victims had to strip naked and lie down in the ditches, whereupon the German soldiers shot them dead with machine guns. As soon as the first group had been shot, the second batch of Jews were forced to undress and lie down atop the bodies of their predecessors. They were then shot dead by the Germans with their machine guns. This done, the last group, too, was prepared for execution; however, seven Jews from this group managed to escape and survived. Thus, the Germans, with the assistance of the local police, murdered a total of 312 Jewish evacuees.
