Apparently in 1942, about 180 Jews were shot to death near the Old Synagogue, located in the southwestern part of town, next to Bazarnaya [Market] Square.

During the night of May 14-15, 1942 Germans, assisted by Ukrainian auxiliary policemen, forced about 200 Jews, including many women, children, and old people, out onto the street and took them to an abandoned cellar located in the center of Satanov, south of Market [Bazarnaya] Square. At dawn the people were locked in from outside and guards were stationed at the cellar entrance. The people inside perishedwere – they either starved to death or suffocated due to the lack of air.
