Shed in Krasne

In March 1943, the Germans, together with Latvian policemen, took the Jews from their homes to a house in Krasne. The Jews had to leave their outer garments there, and were then herded into a shed. On the way, the Latvian policemen beat most of the Jews. German physicians were brought to the barn, and they told the Jews who had been working at the German vehicle pool that they were going to have a medical checkup. The Germans then killed all the Jews with machine guns. Living Jews were forced to step onto the bodies of their murdered fellows, and they were shot dead one after the other in this manner. After the shooting, the shed was burned down. A total of 3,000 Jews were murdered, and the ghetto was liquidated.
