Sofiyevka
Sofiyevka was a stopping place for the Jewish forced workers from Novo-Zhitomir and other villages who in December 1942 were being transferred from Shirokoye to the Lyubimovka labor camp. Before the march from Sofiyevka those Jews who were unable to walk to Lyubimovka were shot on the spot by Latvian guards.

From Shirokoye to Sofiyevka Road
In late December 1942 the inmates of the Shirokoye labor camp, including Jews from Novo-Zhitomir, were lined up and marched from the camp to the Lyubimovka labor camp to construct a section of the Krivoy Rog-Dnepropetrovsk Road. On the way they were joined by Jewish inmates of other labor camps in the area. A short distance from Shirokoye Latvian guards opened fire at the column of Jews. The shooting continued all the way to Sofievka, a stop on the forced march to Lyubimovka, and claimed the lives of at least 200 people. Those who had been wounded were beaten to death with shovels.
